I have a 24 gal AquaPod and didn't remove any of the panels. I did remove the sponges, rings & bioballs though. Why would you want to remove the black panels?

No need to remove panels, just pitch the bio / filter media

There's a thing behind the vents that slides. Reach your *clean* hand back there and push the slider down.

It should. When is the last time you cleaned the sponges? I believe if they get too filled with "stuff" then it would cause less water to flow through.

I am cleaning them tonight with a water change,,,,those instructions are not very helpful that come with the tank.

Just leave them out, they do more harm than good. Get a good protein skimmer and plenty of live rock & live sand, and keep up with water changes, and you're golden.

ps. I never opened the directions it came with.
