Are aquaclears okay filters for tanks. I have a 29gall tank with a 200 aquaclear. I have 6 pounds of liverock too. I have a foxface and a wrass.

In my 75gal tank I have 2 AquaClear 300's and I love them. They move enough water and keep the water crystal clear. I use these type of filters in all my tank setups. :D

I use the foam insert and also the carbon bags. I have never tried the ammonia inserts.

so you never replace the foam/sponge filter? Im assuming so u can preserve the bacterial growth on it? what happens if u were to change the foam tho? wouldn't new bacteria from the water just 'grow back' on the foam? and how often are u changing the carbon filter? are u running it everyday? ive heard people say not to run it everyday? meaning that you take the filter out, and put it in when u need it? sorry for so many questions, and thank you in advance

The sponge doesn't need replaced, like filters in freshwater tanks. Yes, the bacteria would grow back if he bought new ones, but that would get expensive. I doubt he really needs it for biological filtration (he stated he used it for mechanical) as the live rock and sand do the biological filtration, not to mention the protein skimmer. Taking clear water, and turning it crystal clear. The only flaw I found with the aquaclears is the plastic is thin. I have 4 broken ones in the basement. Wish I could use them though. Lost all the U-tubes for mine.
