aquafuge refugium opinions

ok... i have a question. My nitrates are not very high...around 10ppm...anyways, i want a refugium to make them zero. How are the aquafuge's??? My tank can't hold the aquafuge, emperor 280 and prizm. Which should I take off to replace the refugium with? Should I bother doing this? Where is the cheapest place to buy the refugium? Thank you.

Well do you have to get that specific refugium. I know there is a refugium that goes inside the tank.
That or put the skimmer in the sump if you have one.
You need the skimmer, don't get rid of that.
Is the emperor your only filter?
Not sure but isn't 10 high for nitrates.

Your Bioload is pretty low so you could probably go with just the Skimmer and drop the filter. The only problem with the Hang on Refugium is they are small. I have their large one on my 55 and am completely happy with it but my tank is large enough for a skimmer and a hang on biowheel filter in addition to the refugium. The refugium has kept my trates at 0 and has provided lots of pods for the main tank which get syphoned in daily unharmed since they do not go through a filter.

I have a refugium by ecosystem on my 46 gal with lots of live rock and it's my only filtration (NO3=0) you should read some articles on refugiums. Articles are posted on www.ecosystemaquarium.com Studies show that refugiums work best without a skimmer.
I'm no expert but I believe refugiums are going to replace skimmers for most applications.

is that my only concern...nitrates? If I lose the skimmer wouldn't there be the green stuff that the skimmer gets left in the tank? I just took out the bio wheel from the filter because everyone says that it's a nitrate factory...anyways...i think i might get the middle refugium from cpr. anyone have any other ideas?

hey geoff...how much did ur refugium cost? The aquafuge's are under 100. I have to be very budget concisous with this purchase.
