Aragonite White Out

I put 280lbs of dry aragonite sand in a 135gal. tank. I then filled the tank using a RO/DI (100gal.per day) filter. The filtered water trickled into a SS bowl which was placed on top of a sheet of plastic. The water was crystal clear the next morning so I turned the 2 sump pumps on. The water turned PURE WHITE. How long should it take for the water to clear? Do I need to use some kind of special filter? Will this happen any time I move something in the tank?

It sounds like the sand was dry, dead sand. If so, did you rinse it first? This get rid of the small particulates, eventhough some say you shouldn't rinse. Mine cleared up in about two days but I was running a canister filter. Others have had it take up to a week to clear. If the sand it disturbed a lot it can cloud the water temporaily. I found that as time goes on this happens less and less.

I think it is just dust particles floating through your water. Don't worry it will go away on its own. Just give it time.

i had a similar problem i was getting quite bummed....make sure your powerheads are facing up to the top of your tank and your problem should be clear in a day or so. good luck!!!

your best bet is if you are using a wet/dry system where the water enters your filter then put some kind of pad or micron bag to catch a lot of the particles then also on your return pump put a sponge of some sort around the intake part. this should also help to clear it up. it all will just take time.
