no, they are not all detrius eaters; some are specialized and will eat coral; sorry do not know about that particular seastar;if you have an established reef tank w/ corals in it, I 'd hold off until you know for sure

Choco Chip stars are carnivores. Red knobbled eat corals, They eat other inverts. stay with the brittles, marble,and serpents for ditritus help

thanks for the info...I think i'm gonna get a green brittle star. Did you notice that the three of us spelled the same word differently in our posts! Detritis (sp)....Who knows how to spell it??? :) :)

Sea stars in reefs suck.....brittles will knock down corals chasing food, Lynckias will always find a powerhead or overflow and couse trouble. All hail the harlequin Shrimp!!!
 
serpent stars are great especially the red ones which have a vibrant red color to them. I don't know about getting a brittle star. I've heard that they will pick at corals.

Detritus. In a well feed tank the serpants /brittle stars are good. They won't even be seen. If they are starved or large green ones they maybe. I have 2 and rarely see them but I feed well

no some star fish will eat corals and are not reef safe some just clean your sand and some are just for show
