nope there not, not really sure why there listed as that, all you need is good light and good water and good movement and your all set

Depends on some factors, but no they're not difficult.
I got a small head within a month of my first tank being cycled. At first it was in a 12 gallon tank with a 36w PC light and it did fine, though it didn't grow much at all in the 6 months it was in there. I was even spot feeding it once a week with a mix of zooplankton and phytoplankton. After it moved into the 55 I setup after buying a house it started growing great under the 260w PC fixture it was under and I had stopped spot feeding it and just pouring in a measured amount of the same mix I was spot feeding with before.
So the moral here is, better lighting will definitely impact it's growth, why spot feeding won't nearly as much. In a month or two I'll be putting it in my 180 under 4x 175 MH and 4x 160w VHO, so I can just imagine how well it'll do there.

if you worried about getting a hammer coral get a Bubble Coral!!! I love mind they get big with the bubble fully extended!!! easy to take care of BUT because of its tentacles (just like a hammer corals) i reccomend you to eithier put it in the middle of your sand bed or all the way atop you rockwork since the sweeper tentacle only extends aboved the coral.
hope that helps.

I bought a tiny frogspawn frag and placed it near the top and it's already doubled in size, in a little over a month. (with T5 HO lights) I don't spot feed it but I do put phytoplankton in the tank once in a while, about twice a week. Also got a hammer coral at the same time and it has gotten a lot bigger too. So far, from personal experience it hasn't been a difficult coral.

well my tentacle spread about 6 inches and all they do is send them out move them in a sphere motion and if theirs any thing in its way that it doesnt like the tentacles HIT not STING the coral until it falls, dies, or you move it.

The bigger they get as a whole, the longer their tentacles will span.
I will add to this that monk said that yes, their tentacles get bigger as they grow, but if anything that will compete with it the tentacles will expand even more. I placed a torch too close to mine and the tentacles grew about 2 inches within a week. Now, that they are no longer too close the tentacles are only about an inch maybe inch and a half on some. (only a few, compared to almost all) The two corals are about 6 inches away from one another now. They can be very powerful too. The torch and frogspawn fought for a few days, and one head on the torch is lost. Be careful where to place it.
