I THINK THAT BIGGER PUFFERS SUCH AS A DOGFACE AND PUFFER SHOULDNT BE KEPT WITH SMALLER FISH. I DONT HAVE EXPERIANCE IN THIS SITUATION BUT THATS JUST AN ASSUMPTION FROM MY KNOWLEDGE. PEOPLE TELL ME THAT BIG PORKY CAN GO ALONG FINE WITH CLOWNS AND DAMSELS....I DONT BELIEVE THIS.

When they are smaller then tend not to be aggressive. Once they get larger they sorta become the boss of the tank and start to become aggressive.

I had a porky that was about an inch long when I got him. He grew to about 5 inches. I had 2 damsels, and a tomatoe clown with him. Also a scooter blenny that used to rid on his back. I also had a huge clean up crew, and a cc star in with him. My porky never touched any of them. He just kept to himself. He slept throughout the entire morning unless I came over to the tank. He was like a water dog.
I think that different puffers are more aggressive like dogfaces, panda, and golden puffers. From my experience stars and stripes, porky, and box puffers are not as aggressive. That is just IMO. Every fish is different, and everyone will have a different experience with them.

I would tend to disagree with the fact that they are agressive. All of the puffers I have ever had have been extremely non-aggressive, and I even know of a 2 foot stars and stripes puffer that is so peaceful that you can pet him. He never acts aggressive while eating either.
However, my opinion is that it all depends on their enviroment (nature vs. nurture). If you allow them to dominate the tank, they may very well do so. But if you keep them in check, and stock the tank appropriately, there should be no issues.

That is totally right, cuz in the end, they arent fish eating fish, they are crustacean eaters. The only reason they wuld ever nip at another fish is if they are angry, or curious. They WILL nip at a lions fins cuz it is a very curious thing to them, kinda looks like a squidds tentacles almost... But theres a footlong sapo puffer that lets peope pet him at the lfs. As Lion_crazz said, its all about the upkeep. Not all pittbulls are violent creatures, its only their environment that makes them that way, so whos to say that all puffers are agressive?

Basically I believe the underlying purpose of this question was can you put a puffer in your tank. With the fish you have, you should not have a problem adding a puffer.
Just remember that puffers get big, and require alot of swimming room. When you bye fish many times they grow bigger. Just remember to take into consideration the size a puffer can get, and the size of the fish that you already have. Let us know what you decide!!

Good advice leopard_babe. Everything you said was great.
In regards to the lionfish comment though, that is not always correct either. I have had my volitan with a blue spot toby and striped arothron puffer and never had a problem. I still have the volitan with the blue spot and striped and they are all great. I have never seen or noticed any form of aggression from any of them in the past 8 months they have been together. All fish are different.
