I heard on the news yesterday that the salmon are migrating 1 day earlier every year and this will eventually lead to the extinction of there spiecies. Spring is also ariving earlier every year and this will also mess up the ecosystem. Does anyone have any validation to add to this?

Sounds like more conspiracy theory type stuff to me but species have come and gone since the beginning so its possible.

99.9% of all life that has been on Earth is dead. :D makes you think, doesn't it?
like reefraff has said, animals have come and gone since the beginning of time. Someday (and not to get religious, but humans will also become extinct.)

I think I would trust the salmons calendar before humans. I think they have a pretty good grip on what they're doing.

Extinction or evolution into something that adapts to that migration pattern? The same with spring coming early? What does that mean, that it does not fit man's concept of time and is coming early? Does it make a difference? Is change to the ecosystem a bad thing? For who?
Much too heady for a Friday discussion. Makes my brain hurt!

I know polar bears are right on the cusp of being put on the endangered species list, due to the loss of habitat and MANY MANY more drowning swimming MILES looking for more ice to habitat on.. What a disaster...

I recently read that 1/3 of the fish in the Yellow River in China have gone extinct from overfishing, dumping and due to hydro power plants. I believe I have also read that overfishing is going to cause major problems for the world in coming years.

At least there is this JAPANESE SCIENTIST that has been the ONLY fish farmer/scientist in the world that has and IS successfully breeding, farming and releasing BLUE-FIN tuna, THEE major source of SUSHI and most sought after Tuna in the world.. I know I know, its just the tip of the iceberg.. but its a start.
