Are the fish affected by the sound of equip?

I was wondering if a fish is affected negatively by sound of the filtering equipment? I have a 75g tank.I made the stand for it and have a 10g quarantine tank in the stand. The stand also houses a 125g wet/dry.I can hear the gurgling sounds from the overflow skimmer box along with the noise from the pumps and the skimmer. The qt tank is 5 inches away from the w/d.In the qt I have a yellow tail hippo. He's swimming nicely, eating and playing dead when you get too close! But is all the noise ok?
The hippo was purchased just the other day. He was the nicest at the lfs about 2.5 inches, very vivid and healthy looking, not skinny. He's in qt because I know these guys can be ich magnets, although he shows no signs of being sick.Very active fish but also shy.Love him.
Thanks

I would think the fish are below the point of the crashing wave sound. In a closed system with the rumbling water, humming and vibrating pumps, gurgling sounds that seem to get louder as the evening gets quieter, that all this outside noise would pose some problem.Maybe I need to shoot an email to a marine biology school for comment. My post was quirky but nonetheless curious. You read so many post about someone trying to quite down their system for their own sanity ,but what about the fish? Thanks to anyone who takes time out to respond. Happy New Year!

you know I have often wondered that myself im pretty sure it doesnt really affect them but say transporting and you have a lpud system in your car that might kill them I know I have killed crickets before with my stereo turned it up a little to loud but I think the normal noises they would be fine with.

Unless there's an issue with the particular wavelengths (appropriate term?) of the sounds affecting the fish, I wouldn't think there's be too much of a problem.
Remember, the natural reef is a noisy place. Snorkeling off the Big Island of Hawaii, it's amazing how loud it is underwater. Besides the noise of waves, there's parrotfish crunching up coral like an ore processing plant, turtles gnawing away at rocks and coral, plus a lot of other noise, including a "crackling" sound I understand to be attributed to a shrimp.
I'd be more concerned about an impact noise that would create a strong soundwave like tapping on the glass or maybe heavy hammering in close proximity to the tank.
