Many kinds of parasites will irritate fish and cause brushing on rocks. Some fish even do this normally (especially wrasses). Check your water params, since ammonia and nitrites can irritate fish lungs, and cause flashing (rubbing) behavior.
My orchid dottyback does this all the time. When i feed them or if i am looking at my tank he will just brush up against a LR or sometimes he even looks at himself in the side of the tank and will glance off the glass. I dont know what this behavior is but there is no sign of any illness on him and he eats like a pig.
