Are you a Sociopath or do you know one?

This summarizes some of the common features of descriptions of the behavior of sociopaths.

  • Glibness and Superficial Charm

  • Manipulative and Conning
They never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviors as permissible. They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering, seeing their victim as merely an instrument to be used. They may dominate and humiliate their victims.

  • Grandiose Sense of Self
Feels entitled to certain things as "their right."

  • Pathological Lying
Has no problem lying coolly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis. Can create, and get caught up in, a complex belief about their own powers and abilities. Extremely convincing and even able to pass lie detector tests.

  • Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt
A deep seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core. Does not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities. Instead of friends, they have victims and accomplices who end up as victims. The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way.

  • Shallow Emotions
When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises.

  • Incapacity for Love

  • Need for Stimulation
Living on the edge. Verbal outbursts and physical punishments are normal. Promiscuity and gambling are common.
    Callousness/Lack of Empathy
Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others' feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them.
    Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature
Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval produce an addictive cycle for abuser and abused, as well as creating hopelessness in the victim. Believe they are all-powerful, all-knowing, entitled to every wish, no sense of personal boundaries, no concern for their impact on others.
    Early Behavior Problems/Juvenile Delinquency
Usually has a history of behavioral and academic difficulties, yet "gets by" by conning others. Problems in making and keeping friends; aberrant behaviors such as cruelty to people or animals, stealing, etc.
    Irresponsibility/Unreliability
Not concerned about wrecking others' lives and dreams. Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause. Does not accept blame themselves, but blames others, even for acts they obviously committed.
    Promiscuous Sexual Behavior/Infidelity
Promiscuity, child sexual abuse, rape and sexual acting out of all sorts.
Lack of Realistic Life Plan/Parasitic Lifestyle
Tends to move around a lot or makes all encompassing promises for the future, poor work ethic but exploits others effectively.
    Criminal or Entrepreneurial Versatility
Changes their image as needed to avoid prosecution. Changes life story readily.

You just described a whole lot of people. But the real question here is, would we admit it if we were?

I think any handful of these characteristics can describe a bunch of people we might know, however, a sociopath has ALL of these characteristics. Very dangerous types that should be avoided at all cost.

I had a brother that displayed a lot of those characteristics but he was quite the opposite on some of the points.

Yes ,my cousin , the cop. You just described him to a T, scary ! My family has known this for years, but he's such good actor most people don't see it.

These two descriptions are not one and the same. So, if a guy is arrested and demands his right to a phone call and an attorney he is a sociopath? Whoever wrote this list was as motivated by his/her own politics as mental health concerns.

If you could look at a list and diagnose someone we wouldn't need professionals. The last 4 fit my brother to a T but things like lack of empathy and manipulation he was just the opposite. What he was is an alcoholic which might explain some of the behavior.

How's about somebodies right to shoot pigeons that crap on their car?
Their doves moron. How about somebody who has a weapons cache "just because", and goes to the extreme of burying them in his backyard and acting like one of these idiotic Doomsday Preppers? You epitomize the definition of "sociopath" and "trailer trash" in the same breath.

More name-calling. I respond after being called names 3x and get warned. He constantly calls names and it's "just Bionic". Instead of locking the threads, how about a leash for those who chew themselves out of their restraints? You wanna see a sociopath in action? Read a couple posts back. BTW, the Supreme Court has agreed to review the liberals Lord and Savior's Id's. Since Sheriff Arapaio got 3 retired FBI forensic document examiners to look at his documents and they determined they were all forgeries, let's see how sociopathic people like him get when their Messiah is removed from office shortly. Also, if you think Biden will be next in line, the SC is also looking into whether any of his associates have assisted in committing election fraud by assisting in it. Funny how the news media has completely ignored it, hoping it all goes away.

Been watching X Files again? How can anyone take any post you make seriously when you call the President "Lord and Savior" or "Messiah". Maybe you should try "Massa". Yet another one "living in the bubble".

Another of your ilk, living in the same bubble. I won't bother posting the link of the CBC congressman who called him YOUR messiah again. Try crawling out of your hole every now and then. You might actually become educated and open your eyes. But then the reconquista can't come soon enough for you can it?

Can't wait to throw out them there racist words again, can you? You must love using them as often as you do and trying to project them on others. Here, try this, "From the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks".

Hi, I'm going to disagree with you...My nephew is a true sociopath. Much of what you describe is an abuser. Numbers 6 - 9 - 10 - 11 - 15 The abuser personality wants to control others, a sociopath could care less, all they care about is what they want...they will lie, cheat, steal, and even kill ... without a drop of conscience to the hardship or pain they cause. From strangers and family alike...nobody matters but them. If someone else is in authority, they don't seek to dominate, instead they take great pleasure in secretly doing stuff to make them look bad, or take what they have without their even knowing about it. They don't need or care about another persons affirmation at all.
A true sociopath doesn't think they do any wrong because they have no conscience... so they don't hide what they do, they think they are just being picked on by the police or any other authority. They are always in trouble with the law. They do think they are smarter than anyone else, and they want people to understand them for the great mind and ability they think they have...and if a person doesn't, they are an idiot in the eyes of the sociopath because it's so obvious how great they are, others are just too stupid to see it.
