I just learned about this 2 months ago in my intro biology class, except at that time they didn't have the data about the age of this skull that was found about 50 years ago. I think this is really exciting, the missing link to connect respected scientific theories to reality.
What do you think?

no, I'm from South Carolina.
but the way I understand, when humans came about, all the continents were a single mass that later separated. so how they can make any such claim that humans came from 1 specific continent is absurd, imo. it's just one of those arguments that Africa is the mother of everything and to me, that's silly.

There's actually been a lot of research done to support the theory and there is a pretty broad consensus on the theory in the scientific community.
Something that I thought was really interesting that I learned in my into bio class last quarter was that several groups of the species hominin (humans and related species) were living at the same time, up to 5 species. I can't imagine what it would have been like to live at the same time as another species so closely related to us yet different enough from us to be another species. It also makes me wonder why we survived and they didn't. It's really crazy to think about.
