Too many filters not good, or the more the better.

I think you reach a point where no additional filteration is needed.Thus any added filters are doing nothing more than circulating water...A powerhead would do this,and they are cheaper than filters...But then again it depends on what you mean by filters.I have quite a few filters on my setup.But each one does a specific,and diferent job.My sump is for mechanical,and some bio filteration.My refugium,live rock,and deep sand bed are for denitrafication.I have a UV sterilizer that targets unwanted algae spores and other nasty organisms.I also have a canister that I use occasionally for chemical filteration(phosphate sponge,or carbon)And lastly,My skimmer for undissalved organic waste.

as far as mechanical filtration you can but i dont think you can ever have to much protien skimming .. if you want to spend money on excessive filtration get an additional skimmer or 2
