Aren't Chromis pretty hardy?

I purchased 6 green chromis from this site. One was DOA and 4 more have mysteriously died. I also purchased two more from the LFS that followed the same pattern. These fish seem completely active and normal and then seemingly each morning when I get up, one is laying dead on the ground without warning. Water tests normal 0amm, 0trie, 20trate, 8.4ph, 1.026sg, 79 degrees. This tank is a QT and was only empty for 3 days before housing these fish, beforehand is successfully kept a Foxface for 3 weeks and a clown before that. Anyone have any ideas?

They are suppose one of the hardiest fish you can get. I just got 3 from the LFS and they told me they are the only fish you can put in your tank the day you set it up. Try lowering the temp to 76 or 77 degrees.

? they do best in groups. They aren't even labeled as aggressive; the blue green chromis is the most non-aggressive of its kind out of the damsel family from what ive read, and so far its been true from my experience.

I would look for a new lfs I dont think there is a fish that you can drop right in even a chromis.

definitely look for a new store.. no fish can live in a tank that hasn't cycled yet!

not a saltwater fish , but black mollys are used a lot to cycle tanks (yes saltwater tanks) as soon as the temp and salt level are good drop them in and good to go,also man do they reproduce like crazy

i think he means the qt was only empty for 3 days, like he just took fish out of it and put them in the dt, not that its only been set up for 3 days...

Correct. The fish were all drip acclimated for ~2 hours.

I have had 5 blue/green chromis for one year in my 90 gal.... great schooling/swimming high fish(water column).... they all died the same day... mystery.... 2 were on the small side.... often hiding in the rocks..... often bullied by a good size lyretail anthias.... anyway... they all died the same day.....still a mystery!

Your pH seems a little high, also you could lower your salinity. Go to like 8.2 and 1.024 or so. That should at least help if it doesnt fix the problem.

I keep the QT matched to my DT settings, so I don't want to change any parameters. I don't see either of those two affecting the fish, anyway.... :-

Your water parameters are fine. Do you have a camcorder where you could record what is going on at night?

My fellow hobbyist ,its not your fault that your green chromis perished . Green chromis are supposed to be hardy , but , thats not always true . These fish tend to kill each other off . I've been doing saltwater for 17 years , and each time that I place them into an established aquarium , they seem to die . I've had as many as 8 at one time, and now I only have 2 left which are about 3 inches . But once they've acclimated themselves , they seem to do fine ...

Me too...I started with 8 in my QT and now I have 3. It has been about 3 weeks in the QT. All levels are fine.....I think they kill eachother off.
