ASM G3 vs Octopus NW200

I am getting a new skimmer for my 220 FO, I was set on the ASM G3, but I have recently heard good things about the Octopus NW 200, anyone out there using an Octo?
any opinions appreciated.

If mem. serves me right ASM no longer makes skimmers now they are Octo's..So prolly about the same thing..

ASM still makes skimmers. I have a ASM I have not used so I can't say how the performance is. I have a Octo 110 recirculating skimmer that I would say is built as good as the ASM but I have not been happy with its performance. Too inconsistant. I am sure with some weekly tweaking I could keep it skimming good enough but that isn't in the cards so a Tunze is on the way.

if ASM quit it must have been recently, I just bought a G1 for my reef 6 monthas ago, and I really like it. I better see if I can track one down

Marine solutions claims to have switched because of ASM's price hikes. they claimed ASM got ticked at them honoring the old prices after a price increase or something to that effect. what ever the case they put up ASMskimmers.com NOT ASM and you can still get ASM from several places including here.
From all accounts Octopus skimmers are built at least as well as ASM and perform just as well (by most accounts they are built better and perform better but of course I will be accused of sounding biased on a site that sells and people who endorse ASM. you can research this yourself.. That said the Octopus is $50 cheaper and G4 sized so I cant see whats to compare. they are both euroreef knock offs and the only real difference between the two are price and who's pump performs the best which will differ from size to size equivalents (comparing price to price you will always be comparing a bigger octopus to a smaller ASM which really isn't a apples to apples comparison). both are too small for a 220 if you use euroreef capacity standards which are pretty much accepted. Its asking alot for $200-260 skimmers to handle a 220 gallon tank.

I woulod go with the octo for sure. It is all cest cast and schedule 80 unions versus extruded. It is Way sturdier build quality and cheaper. And in my opinion it out performs the asm. Plus you can get a nw 200 for $170 and it will probably handle a fish only 220 just fine. If you had a reef, I would say that it is undersized.

I am running a nw 110 on my 65 and it works great. Havent had any issues with it at all been using it about 6 months. I did add a gate valve to the outlet for easier adjusting. But I like it. It works well for the price. I did try an aqua C ev model and iit made more bubbles but i couldnt get it set right and it took up a little more room. So for the money the octo has been a good choice for me. Make sure you dont put a gasket in the inlet of the pump. It will block your air inlet. lol I did this when i first got it. But all in all to thumbs up.

I may give the octo a try, I am going to do a little more research, but you have all raised good points. Is there any other brands that you would reccomend? as this is a F/O tank, I dont want to spend huge money for a skimmer, but I want something that will do the job. i hate buying things twice, and I have been doing this long enough to know not to buy cheap equipment.

A skimmer is def. not something to skimp on...I have heard that the Coralife Super-Skimmers are great....The seem to have a tendency to overflow though..
