ASM vs Euro-reef fquestions????

I've been doing some research and have looked over this site, trying to determine what protien skimmer to go with. I have a 150 fowlr 200lbs of lr.
But I'm still a little uncertian on what skimmer to go with. The Euro-reefs seem they like they are the best, but the ASM seem like a much better value. The ASM skimmers are just made with cheaper matierals, plus i think the euros are over priced for their name...
I dont mind spending more if the Euro is worth it. But its kinda hard paying almost twice for the same thing. I found a ASM g-3 for $255 and the cheapest euro CS8-2 is is almost $500. Im willing to pay more if its really worth it. I just find it hard to believe that the euro could be that much better then ASM, since they are basically the same product. :notsure:
SO, could anyone please get back with me on their opinions on what skimmer I should go with. Rigth now im leaning towards the ASM

You might want to take a look at the geo skimmers..also the MRC's are nice if you want a Beckets design.
I just setup this custom recirc Geo a few days ago (retail 550.00) Its equal in size to ER's RC8-3 model

I went through the same dilemma, I went with the ASM for price only... Personally cast or cell you can still see through both... I actually don't think that's necessary either as long as you can see through the collection cup. They all are a boat load of money for a piece of plastic. However, does a bang up job! I got the ASM G-4X - it does have a sedra 9000.

PS my other dilemma was to do a DIY. Hindsight now having my hands to touchy feely it. There isn't a sedra pump driven type skimmer that I couldn't build with standard sched 40 PVC. For PVC cost $40-$60 and you can get the sedra 3500, 5000, and 9000 with the modified impeller, Venturi, elbow and hose online. I priced the 9000 kit at $119 without shipping. Wouldn't be as pretty, but would function the same. The other DIY which was causing me more hesitation is a Mazzie Venturi, which one and what pump to mate and adjust for head pressure to keep the 10 Lbs. difference between input and output for max air insertion and not burn up the pump in short order

I have an asmg 4x skimmer and it works beautifully. I'm using it on a 200 gallon tank. No nitrates!

Hey Sleasia just a quick question can you skim both wet and dry with the ASM? What is the footprint of the G4X?

You know i don't think they have an out of sump skimmer, the ASM G4x is an in sump skimmer. it has a foot print of about 16 x 13 and I was able to get it in an amiracle mr300 wet dry with some finagling, but the problem was that the water level required by such a big skimmer forced the water level of my wet dry to climb up into the bio ball chamber which probably sacrificed a bit of the efficience of the wet dry. so frustrated a bit with all of this , i just made my own wet dry out of a 50 gallon sterilite tub I got at Target.. it works beautifully, accomodates the skimmer well, and has been designed to be easily dissassembled for easy cleaning, vacuming whatever. But this is just the point, rather than dumb my wonderful skimmer, I would go to the extent of changing everything else because it is so easy and so good. Most of the sites that sell asm skimmers give all the footprint specs as well.

You can run the ASM skimmers out of sump if you gravity feed the skimmer, but you would need to put the skimmer in some type of container, because from what I've heard from their site they do leak some......
