I use a mag utility pump...it works great. A hose is attached to the pump and run up to the tank. I have an auto top off unit that tells the pump when to come on and pump water.
The ATO has two sensors, one for the tank at the level I want my water to stay, and another in my RO holding tub. That sensor won't allow the ATO to pump if the water level is too low, to protect the pump from burning up.

Does it have to submerge? I use aqualifters for this task. They are cheap and they won't burn up from running dry.

I would say it depend on the ATO you run somewhat. If you get a lot of evap and run the JBJ I have heard problems of the JBJ timing out before a very slow pump can do the job. I use the mini jet 404 on mine.
What ATO do you use and how much evap do you get?

sorry for the slow response -
i am pretty sure that is exactly what i had. this thing rusted up on the little metal bracket on the inside and froze. unless the one i was using was meant for air, but it looked just like that.
