attack of the Chocolate Chip Starfish

I know this isn't really "fish discussion" but i thought i would ask on this board anyways... My Chocolate Chip Starfish ate my pink tipped anenome... and a feather duster.... is this normal? I'm wondering if i'm going to turn the lights on someday and see my maroon clown wedged between my physco starfish and his bubble tip  any thoughts on this rampage? i thought they were supposed to be peaceful.

They are not reef safe! You can try and spot feed him krill etc.. and maybe his attitude will straighten out.;)

Yep those stars will eat almost anything they can get ahold of. Mine ate my feather duster then it tried to eat my sebea anemone  If you keep them well fed they shouldn't eat as much of your other stuff but they definitely don't belong in a reef or any tank with an anemone.

ours like to eat snails and ate our urchin,
we feed it raw shrimp weekly but this did not stop him from eatting snails. (he used to bumb the snails off the glass, then eat them after they fell upside down).

The behavior is perfectly normal, and they are peaceful, just predatory. :) Nothing abnormal in trying to get something tasty to eat. Anything is fair game...corals, snails, clams, sponges, anemones. As mentioned, you might have some luck with spot feeding, but not necessarily. Also keep in mind that they will be especially attracted to stressed, dying or dead animals. How are your water parameters and how long have you had everything? How old is the tank?
Are you at UNB? Visited up there last Fall. Hubby got his degree. Beautiful place! Great market!

I have a CC Starfish and I spot feed him krill twice a week so far I have not had a problem with him but I do keep an eye on it because I have a Condi anemone, but so far the starfish hasn't bothered the anemone.

I have 2 cc starfish and one comes to the front of my tank for food (he likes tubifex worm cubes) and the other used to stay at the back of the tank waiting for the "leftovers" from what my purple anenome was killing. Oh and shaving brush hasn't got a chance with cc starfish or coral-banded shrimp.I have one out of five left. Now they both come to the front of the tank since I took the anenome out.:D

I have one, that used to be in my 180 gal semi reef/fish, and came home to find him latched on one of my xenia. I keep him in my refugium now.

My husband said that he wants to put more coral and such in his tank and the cc's have to go.Guess I'll give them to my LFS.I only gave $5.00 apiece for them but they have a very expensive appetite if you ask me.:)We still have them...this one had to have a snail pried out of his mouth and fed something I agree for him to be eating:D Pic will be in next post...

I had this CC Star for a couple of years until I found him having a button polyp for dinner, That's when he went back to the store. I hated to get rid of him, i think they are real cool looking.
