Norway i would also love to see how you have the sump/fuge set up. i am switching to a 29 gallon tank and want to use a 10 gallon for the sump. i didnt think i could fit a fuge in the same 10g sump. anyway i know nothing about setting those up so i would love any info you can give me, pictures would be great too !! sorry for jumping in on your post gfk. i hope you dont mind... thanks

hey guys sorry it took so long to respond......i didnt even see it till today.
i apologize but all i have as of now is a sump. i do plan on working with some acrylic and my normal little ***** 10 gal glass tank to make it a sump/fuge combo. my stand has two levels below the 20 long and it would be nice to set up the fuge in the middle level...adding to my 28 gallons total.....probably up it to a 33-35 gallons total but we'll see.
as of right now i have two 3/4" bulkheads on each corner of the tank. if you just use a strainer on the bulkhead your water level will be too low so you have to use a 90 degree elbow and then your strainer to keep the water level asthetically pleasing. i actually kept both of these drains seperate all the way down to the sump so that if one became clogged the other could still handle the flow. the return pump is a mag 3 drive which i installed a ball valve on so that i could slightly restrict flow. the pump was a little too much for my drains. (a lot of people use there sump return for flow in there tank but i frown on that simply because a closed loop system is much better for this job plus a ton of water circulation from tank to sump equals tons of evaporation.) here is a pic of the plumbing, first one shows the entire stand and then the second shows my return, the two drains, and my closed loop system.

here is one of the elbow(black pvc is from savko.com). second is of my manual top off system...easier than lifting that pos jug to eye level every day. it was actually designed to be a gravity fed auto top off but the jug was too weak and would cave in allowing too much water out. a new design is coming soon. the third is of my sump. you can see the two drain pipes and the return from my skimmer go to the back left corner of the sump where i built a little "closet" like space where all the microbubbles are only allowed to the surface and the water flow is only allowed through the lower section of the closet. without this my return would be spitting air bubbles in the main tank. same result you get from baffles just less materials and less space in your sump taken up. idea is from a kick ass site called melevsreef.com
i know this is swf.com and they are a vendor for sw products but they dont offer the products that either of those sites sell......no blood no foul?

here is a link to/picture of my future plans .....this sump is actually made entirely of acrylic but the "closet" and baffles are easy to silicone in. and yes, silicone WILL hold acrylic to glass. i have done it. notice i said hold to, i would not advise trying to use silicone to hold acrylic together and then putting water in the container. only use it inside another container such as a 10 gallon glass aquarium.

right now i am not using this setup because i do not have an auto top off system. the return pump area in this design rapidly changes water level which could be fatal to your pump if the level got too low...............
the subject of water level is, in my opinion, the most important subject to understand while building a sump/fuge. the designer must be prepared for the pump being turned on and pushing water into empty tubes, water evaporation(most important), and power loss(if the water level is too high while your system is running then your sump will overflow when power is lossed and all that return and supply water follows gravity.)
on melevsreef.com marc has a section about determining your needs.....read it!
