Hi guys,
Just wanted your thoughts on keeping black mollies in my permanent QT? Once it has cycled it is perfectly safe to keep them in there during hypo or medication treatment to other fish? How does it interract with other fish?
Kindest regards,
Tim.

I don't like the idea. QT should be for the new fish that you are introducing or to treat a sick fish. Part of the purpose of QT is to reduce fish stress so that a new fish or sick fish has some time out in a stress free environment to get healthy. This, of course, is eliminated by keeping more than one fish in the QT.
Also, personally, I don't think it is right to treat fish over and over again with various meds when they don't need it. Which would happen if you keep mollies in the tank.

OK fair points. I just felt a little inspired when on one of your threads about everyone starting to have QT's someone posted a pic and I thought it was quite nice!
Oh well! But whilst I have your attention :)D ) I was looking to get either a skimmer or an external filter for my QT (it currently has an internal Fluval 3 and I wanted a Fluval 203 or so), which should I get first, or is more important?
Thanks for the help,
Tim.

When considering filters for QT, keep in mind that with some cases, when medicating fish, for instances, you will need to turn off the filter. As in the case of a skimmer. Also, when using canister filters, you will need to stop using the carbon.
Canister filters are more versalite for QT purposes and can do a really good job of cleanup when you need it. I'd get it, rather than the skimmer.

OK cheers beth will look for one, should I not invest in one a skimmer at all? Would it be of any benefit to me?
Cheers,
Tim.

Not really. There really is not enough organic material [hopefully] for a skimmer to do its job.
