OH MAN ARE YOU IN DEEP DOODOO
um, i would get the tang out of the tank, and maybe all the fish, if they are showing any signs of ick, i cannot tell ou about the trunkfish, but i would somehow quarentine the fish, if it were ick an dstart immediate hypo treatment, if you have any doubts about it, go to wal mart or shop around first and get another quarentine tank(if need be), adn get the tang moved, i do not know about its particular use, but in this case, i would probably try to use the product called cycle, i do not like it but to set up an emergency hospital tank, maybe but only then,
IMO, it would be better to try to save the tang (either with or with out your 10 gallon) then to risk the whole tank
and then i woudl definitely quarentine all fish befor adding them to my tank

Oh my!!
Have you thought about just washing out your QTank and then taking 10 gallons of water from your show tank for it?? I would quarenteen that tang right away and perhaps start treating it with copper.
Good Luck

St3, you don’t mention what type tank you have [reef, FO, FOWLR?]. This is important to know to advise you whether you need to setup a hospital tank or you can treat in your main tank. Basically, if you have only fish in your tank then you will be able to treat in tank. FO means no live sand, live rock, inverts, corals, etc. Only fish.
The best treatment for ick is hyposalinity. Yes, all fish must be treated, and, unless you only have a couple of fish, a 10gal is too small. You can not use the existing 10gal wo first thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting it....as it sounds as if it might be contaminated. Depending on how many fish you have, you can setup a hospital tank relatively cheaply [$100 or less]. You need basic but simple filtration, a powerhead may be needed to keep the water well aerated, and the aquarium. No need for lights, substrate or rocks. You can use either PVC or fake rocks to provide the fish in the treatment tank with comfort zones. You will use water from your main tank for the hospital tank [providing that that water is of good quality].
Hyposalinity is thoroughly explained in many threads on this website. Please use our search feature to find information on the procedures. If you need help with it, post back, and we'll be glad to guide you thru the process.
BTW: I'm moving your thread to the Disease Forum where these types of topics are handled. See you over there!
