My girlfriend and I went to our local ***** yesterday just to get a collar for our great dane. I found a gorgeous tang that was in excellent shape. It was about 3", very healthy, active, and eating. I looked on the internet and found it was an Achilles Tang and was anywhere from 60.00 to 80.00. I went after work today to get it. There was a label with no picture that said 54.99. The girl salesperson knew nothing about any of the fish except that they received them 3 wks ago. I even told her its name. After she took 10 minutes to catch it, she marked it as a purple queen anthias for 25.99. excited was an understatement. It is in the tank now and very active. :)

I have gotten two ocellaris clowns and a pair of cleaner shrimp from *****. All of them are doing quite well in my 29g. :)
Although *****'s tanks don't meet my expectations, all of their inhabitants are healthy. Plus they're the only store around that sells SW creatures. :D

we went to ***** tonight......if we had gone last week....there was a huge sale on every fish...practically giving them away as they have now torn down all their tanks and are relocating them. No fish now. Could hit some awesome deals. Darn.

I think i live near 4 big chain pet stores and none of them carry salt stuff not even supplies
i have to go to one of 2 LFS in my town for emergencies only they are way over priced
one of them makes ***** look good and the other one is really good ex; I went in to buy a pair of firefish and also grabbed a bag of subtrate for a different tank he (the owner)saw the subtrate and almost wouldn't sell me the fish cause he thought i was just setting up the tank
truly honest guy i can tell he cares more for the fish than money which is probably why his prices are so high:rolleyes:
but i did find a great place about 25miles away that i do go past a couple times a month good quality and good prices so we'll see how this place goes.

If anybody is around atlanta, there are two excellent marine fish stores near there. In Marietta, GA, there is an amazing place called Marine Fish (strange name). They have a 600 or 700g display tank. There corals are healthy but pricey. They carry as many captive-raised fish as possible for hardiness and they have the largest fish I've ever seen in a store. They carry triggers, tangs, and angels up to 12" long. The other is where almost all my business goes. Aquarium Fantasies in Montgomery, AL. The owner will give you his cell phone# in case you have an emergency with your fish after hours. They will not sell any fish until they have monitored them for 2 weeks. He gives every customer a face to face acclimation procedure and his fish, coral, and dry supplies are within a dollar or two of any internet price. Thought somebody might need somewhere better to shop.:happyfish

ha!ha! deathco! I haven't heard that yet!
Do they still catch with chemical bombs. I've seen the after effects of these things in the wild and it's pretty sad to look at.

*****'s should be shut down. They contribute to a huge amount of animal deaths each year by hiring ignorant people to sell pets to unknowing customers. I have worked at 2 Petcos, through college, and was always disgusted by my co-workers and managers. The managers themselves know very little if anything about the animals they sell. Last week, while buying dog food, I listened to one of the fish guys tell a customer about his Lion Fish that is kept in a 10 Gallon tank and how cool it looks when it eats goldfish. I wanted to smack him. But I didn't. Sorry to vent, I just feel sick almost every time I walk in one of those death stores.

He is eating flake food and purple seaweed. I gave him a piece of seaweed about 2" long pinced between some lr. He ate it all by the time I got out of the shower this morning. He opens his fins fully and stays out in the open. That is maybe the most gorgeous fish I have ever owned. I am surprised I have never seen one.

for those of you that don't have a local swf store but so have a fwf store if you get to know these people a bit alot of them use the same suppliers as the SWF stores do.my SFWS doesnt always carry the products I use for my tanks or is too far to go for some items.I have my local fresh water supplier order items for me.I normally get better pricing and the exact item i need.some store owners will do this for less of a profit to clients to incourage repeted business.so if they dont have it on stock just ask you might find yourself getting very good bargains and no shipping fees

townsdp, that's an awesome deal! Good luck with him.
Whitey, I totally agree with you. Though I never worked at one, I can't stand most of the stuff that they do.
