B&W clown / onyx clown

I did a search for this, but didn't find much info...
I'm starting a second 55g tank, and would to have either a pair of black and white false percs, or one b&w and one standard orange and white...
my question: I've read about what some just label "b&w clowns", and also about "onyx clowns". Are these the same? If not, are there differences is adult size, or in temperment?

No they are not the same, B&W clowns are B&W ocellaris, Onyx Clowns are really just color morphed true percs, different species.
So, you can pair a B&W ocellaris with an orange and white one, aka false perc. Or you can pair a true perc, with an oynx perc, safley. There are cases where people have had sucess pairing ocellaris with percula and even getting them to mate but as far as species goes, its good practice to keep them separate.

Ah, thanks. So it safe to say the agression level of the onyx clown is the same as a true perc? And they get to be the same size?

Yes they are the same species, what people have done is capitolized on the rare color morph. Getting 2 to pair and mate that are completly black between the white stripes. Over time that color morph becomes dominant. And they are known as onyx perc's.

This was (to my knowledge) most effectively done by a man named Bill Addison (getting the genes to become dominate). Maby if we are really lucky and pray to the clownfish gods Rod will chime in on this. Onyx from this lineage are awesome (see my avitar it was the female from Bill Addisons mating pair) Much prettier than the B&W Osc IMO.

I agree, and if I remember correctly Rods website states where his onyx lineage comes from. And I believe that his can be traced back to Bill Addisons.
