About three years ago my dad passed and my tank flooded so my wife seized the oppurtunity to take my tank apart. Ready to start again have a 150 tall tank. i have live rock in a garbage can dried out about 200 lbs. is this good or not. what steps do i need to take with it. have a halide light system, but remember that the skimmer is the biggest deal what should i get. sorry cant spell but love the hobby.

a lot of people on here suggest the octopus line of skimmers.and the rock is fine you should prob scrub it real good to get the die off of it, then put it in the tank with water and let it cycle. maybe seed it with some live rock. p.s welcome to the site

I went for the Octopus XP 1000 sss for my new sump...Just cycle the rock...get some live sand (the good stuff not just bactera) SWF.com sells it and you should be good with the rock seeded in no time.

Right here on this site. I plan to get my live sand from here when the time comes and my sump and refugium arrives. The live sand in the bags just have bacteria, what you want is the stuff with tiny critters in it..like from here.

i have an octopus extreme.i wouldn't recommend it i think it was around $300+ .the pump keeps stopping for some reason?plus it really didn't skim too great to begin with.the instructions are useless.there was no way to tune anything on it.i tried all different water depths but just wasn't happy with it.so it sits in the saltwater equipment graveyard in the shed.
