Backup Power Supply - Hurricane Prep

Anyone have any good suggestions for backup power sources?
I'm looking into getting a Duracell Powerpack 600 or similar (preferably one that is solar rechargeable). I have found a few different models for anywhere from $140-$300.
Just wanted to see what anyone else does. Generator is out of the question as my tank is in an office building on the 10th floor

Just want to make sure I can keep my tank cool and getting by in case there is a hurricane or tropical storm and power goes out.

if the power is out for less than 10 hours, there isnt anything to worry about. if u live in a major city inside a building, power is normally restore pretty fast. but if u must, get anything that will allow u to run a powerhead or two while the power is out. i hv a black and decker power supply for such an occasion, since my power goes out at least 2-3x per year for 5-6 hours at a time.

Does the building have an emergency generator? Most high rises do. Perhaps you can get the managmeent company to install a generator powered outlet for the tank? They usually make some emergency power available to tenants for IT needs, etc, so it may be possible.
If your office has a server room, your IT department probably already has a power system in place for backup. IT guys are pretty easy to bribe with a little respect and a food/beverage of choice (at least I am
), you may be able to get themt to let you run an extension cord in the event of a problem...

Yes, the office building has a backup generator. I don't know if we have an outlet that is powered by it, though. Our IT guys are great. However, I don't know what the building allows. I guess my next step is to find out how to grab power from the backup generator. If not, I'm definitely going to be getting a couple of the powerpacks. My concern is that if I am unable to get into the building
due to powerlines in the road, the building being locked, non-working elevators (our stairs are for exit only), etc.
Thanks for the input

Keep in mind, you need to get to the building regardless, whether to hook into the generator or hook up your power packs. A UPS is the only automatic solution, and you'll need a really big one to support even a powerhead for a long time (24 hours or more...)

We have plenty of big UPS. I already contacted the building and am waiting a reply. My concern is how fast I will have access to the building (i.e. backup generator powering the elevators). I'm hoping no storms come this way anytime soon...

I have an APC battery backup that I used to use with my PC at home but now its for my tank as a backup. Its one of the larger ones and I use it as my power hub for the tank. With everything on (all lights etc) it would only last for 2 hours or so but if I took the lights off of it then it would go for a long time. I dont think its necessary but I had it laying around.
