Bad Ballast

Hello everyone, I have metal halides on my 90 gallon which have worked flawlesly for sometime now. However, just recently one of the two lamps didn't light up. so after a few strikes and time for cooling down I decided to swap the bulbs to obviously rule that out. Unfortunately both bulbs are ok. I guess my question is do I have to replace the ballast? and if so will the new ballast work with the inputs on the existing light fixture?

Sounds like a bad ballast. If so then it will need to be replaced. But since this is a fixture then it could also be a switch or possibly a capacitor, or maybe even just a bad connection. Who's the manufacturer of the fixture?

Agree with Corey.....Worse case cut the connector off the old ballast and rewire it into the new ballast.

Welcome to the site!
You didn't say what kind of light unit....If it is a coralife MH unit...it takes those pulse bulbs. I thought I had a bad ballast, they even replaced it, it turned out I had bought regular mogul bulbs when I needed one with a starter on it. That is when Coralife explained they use a pulse type of light and it takes certain bulbs.
