Ballast question

My MH setup came this afternoon, and the ballast is quite large and heavy (20lbs) There are no brackets or attachment points to mount it, not like it would stay mounted to anything anyways. Where should I put it?

do you have a backround on the tank? how long is the cord?

I have mine on the floor next to the stand for now. I was going to put them under the tank in the stand but thought there might be to much moisture in there. I will put them behind the stand whan I move it.

Slicks, will it be OK on the carpet or should I get a stone tile or something to put it on. It looks kind of like one big heat sink (little metal ribs on all sides), which makes me think it will get quite hot.

I cut a couple of pieces of 2X4 and put the ballast up on them.

I have mine propped up on a few pieces of wood. Yeah it will probally get quite hot. Don't set it right on the carpet.
