does anyone know if a normal coil ballast for a 250w MH that runs a 4000k bulb would also run a 6500k or higher bulb of the same wattage. my reason for asking is that i can get a ballast here locally for $45.00 but im not sure if it will run a higher K bulb.

thx Option720, ive seen that one before. i guess im sorta trying to accomplish the same thing ( pricewise) theres a lighting store here that has a ballast that i said but im not sure if it will run a higher K bulb. if it does then as ive figured its 47.00 for the ballast, 19.00 for the mogul base = 66.00 plus the 4.00 for the pigtail not too shabby, im only at 70.00. then all i need is the bulb. the lighting store has 250watt 4200k bulbs for another 17.00 ( which i wouldnt get because of the K rating). anyways, after my rambeling im still wondering if i can run a higher K with a standard 250 watt ballast.

With the of the ballast i listed and HQI ballast combos i don't see any reason why you couldn't run any k bulb you want on it. You can do that with PFO, Ice Cap, etc.
