Bamboo Shark and Hypo ??

I have read and understand the suggestions on Hypo. Mostly what have been talked about are regular fish. I have regular fish with a Bamboo Shark in the tank. If I wanted to put all my fish in a hospital tank so I can run Hypo. (cause my yellow tang appear to be have a couple of white spots on his fins.) How would this work out with a Bamboo Shark ? Will the hypo apply to the shark as well ? And if not, any suggestions ?
P.S. the yellow tang been in the tank only for a week, from the LFS.

I was hesitent to respond because I just don't know that much about sharks. But, since you haven't gotten any other responses, let me suggest that you check out the low salinity question with some of the folks in the Aggressive Forum. I do know that many shark species in the wild encounter hyposaline waters when they swim up rivers, etc., so it may be perfectly fine. But, give it a check with the Shark experts....risc, in particular.

Im not Risc, and I don't claim to be an expert. So I'll give my advice based on my experience.
Is the shark showing any signs of illness? My guess would be probably not. Sharks are VERY resistant to ick and most other disease/parasites, but they are very sensitive to changes in the water. They can detect even the smallest change.
I've ran into problems with ick before in my shark tank. But the sharks were never infected. The last time, the ick was even bad enough to cause me to loose a puffer even though I moved it to a hospital tank and treated it.
What I recommend (this has worked for me) is removing all of the fish except the shark from the main tank. Move them to a hospital tank and treat as necessary. Leave the main tank fish free (bonny fish) for 2-3 months. Maintain excellent water quality, but leave the salinity at normal levels. Over this time the ick should die off, and if the fish in the hospital tank have been cured, you should be able to slowly reintroduce them to the main tank.
I could be wrong, and if I am, Risc will correct me. I have however, had excellent results with this method.

Hey guys thanks for the wonderful help !! I can say, that Iam honestly more informed. While Iam setting up my20 gal. hospital tank. I had another question. I brought a Penguin 125 with the bio wheel. It comes with a filter pad with "CARBON". Is carbon okay for the hospital tank? I dont use carbon in my display tank. And on the Shark, he doesnt show any signs of being stressed or having Ich.

Why the 2-3 month waiting period in the hospital tank?
Carbon is fine, as long as you don't use meds. If you use meds, then the carbon will pull the meds out of the water.

Beth: I realize the 2-3 month period sounds excessive, and well I'm sure it is excessive. I just never like to take the chance. I wanted to be certain the main tank was ick free before reintroduction.
Now I quarantine all new fish before adding them to a display tank. Much easier.:D

I just lost my leopard shark to the low salinity levels...my tank got an ick outbreak do to the fact that I purchased my picaso trigger from PETLAND DISCOUNTS..Bad move i have a 20 gl tank but its not setup for qurantene stupid me....I lowered the salinity levels in the tank and the leopard shark started to breath heavy unfortuantly I didnt have any salt in stock which i thought i had and it was 11pm and all LFS were closed...in the morning the Lion Fish and the leopard shark were dead  ...the only thing that survived was the Eel...yes it was in part my fault for not having any salt on hand but just to let you know that sharks cant handle low salinity levels at least mine didnt....that was an expensive lesson and a hard lesson learned ...I loved my leopard shark.....The first time my tank broke out with ick again it was a fish from Petland Discounts all the fish got it except the shark...I dont think Sharks get ick...and this time the shark didnt have it either..but it just couldnt handle the low salt levels...my 2 cents

In the hospital tank, does it have to have a fish in there to keep the good bacteria alive ? I have it running now, just with the "hot penguin filter" with water from my main display tank. Is this enough ???
