bamboo shark in 24"

hello there! new hear, but a vet. to the salt water world.
im taking on the task of building my first custom tank. space requirements for where i want to install this tank are going to limit me to about 24" of height, but the total size of the tank is quite enormous (over 1,000 gallons easily). will i still be ok with a bamboo shark? he will have lots of traveling distance, but the water will only be 24"-- is this ok?

that's more than enough height...sharks don't need that much in terms of height...it's more about the area they can swim in width and length. on top of 1000 gallons is more than a lot of people use for a bamboo...

Deffinatly, thats a good size tank. You could do even more than bamboo's.

It certainly would be able to house them for some time, if not forever. Searching for 'bamboo shark' on youtube results in a number of videos. While almost 99% of them are housed in horribly small tanks, what I noticed is that they really seemed to 'patrol' (swim with their bellies against) the side of the tank as they swim, then turn around vertically. Most had to contort themselves into a sharp 'U' to turn. This was probably because the height of most of those tanks were taller then they were wide, however.
If krj-1168 (local shark wrangler around here) doesn't response, I'd say to PM him in a couple days and see what he says.

if i am doing the 24 inches of hight, what is the minimum width that i would want? Length is where i can just go all-out. my length will probably exceed 25 feet. am i ok in doing only 24 inches of width as well?

my uncle has a 1000 gallon tank and he made it alot wider than 24". He has 3 wobbey gongs, and a whole bunch of other fish. I noticed the wobbeys like to zig zag the tank. They are all rather big. Next time I go to his house, ill take some pics and post 'em

No, the recommended width for most tanks and fish, is having the width 1.5 times the adult size of the fish, and an absolute bare minimum of width, as wide the shark. So for a 4 foot Brown Banded, 48" of width too.

Right, right... I am going to have to re-think the dimensions of this project.

You know? Rather than building this tank and having it installed into the side wall of one of the hall ways, I wonder if it might be nice to have the tank installed as a floor in one of the rooms. or even the ceiling. That might be interesting, and give me the floor area to properly house the sharks.
Are bamboos compatible with other bamboos?
