Can anything tell me any reason why I shouldn't buy one of these high priced eels?
I'm just about to push the button on a 14" one for $400, and my stomach is in knots..LOL

Ive seen them so much cheaper than that, I would wait and find one a bit less pricey.

You're not gonna find a Banana Moray for less than that. I'd like to know where you've seen them cheaper, surfinusa.
They're basically a reverse Golden Tail Moray.
It's not that their rare...there's just not too many suppliers selling them. I'd like to have one and one day I'm sure I will...there's not other fish I want more.
If you're wanting one, I'd snatch one up, for $400...that's a very reasonable price.

I see several sites (this one included) that list them in the $200's range, but they never have them in stock and they never list what size that is. I've never mail ordered fish before, but I'm guessing that an eel is about the safest thing you could mail order as they are typically tough to kill.
Still 400 bones is a hard pill to swallow. One day when I buy that Jap DME that pill will hurt I'm sure.

I got mine at a LFS for $130. It's a great eel. Pretty mellow. It gets along with my rays and epaulette shark just fine.

Nice pick up for that price!!! My LFS's never get them or anything that exotic in.
Does anyone know the lifespan on them?
BTW, thanks for the pic AC that was enough to push me over the edge. He's on his way to my tank. Mellow, gourgous, long lived...and as most/all eels hardy and disease resitant. How can you go wrong?

Well, couldn't hold back. I overpaid but I'm selling a FW Datnoid Pulcher to a guy this weekend for $300 that I bought several years ago for $80 so I'll call it a wash.
He's shipping today and should be going in my 75g tomorrow and eventually into my 240g.
Can't WAIT!!!

They max at 26", so technically they stay smaller than a Snowflake. So I say yes.
Just make sure you have alot of Live Rock to hide in.
