Banded Shark HATCHED! Now what to feed?

I went down to the local Albertson's and bought a pound of thier seafood combo. I has squid, octopus, clams, oysters, lobster, crab, and some other goddies... I took it home and put it in the blender and ground it to a fine paste then mixed in a little garlic oil froze it and figured that would be good. Is there anything else I should do? I have not seen him really eat I did try to had feed him and he took a byte out of it but that was about it. Any advise would be great!

I read somewhere that garlic oil was not as good as garlic extract. I to had a shark hatch on thursday and was wondering what to feed him. I chopped up some scallops but he did'nt seem interested. I will be watching this thread for some answers also. Good luck with your shark.

Get a stick about the diameter of a pencil from Home Depot or some other place. Sharpen it in a pencil sharpener. Stick a small piece of fish or squid on it and wiggle it around in front of its face until it eats it. Thats what I did and it worked great.

My shark just a peice of krill today.He stays under a rock and i put the stick in between the rock and he ate it.

it really is a great feelings when your baby bamboo, takes his first bite lol, but seriously, i went to ***** and got some tongs, for feeding things, they works great, i dont like the actually pointy feeding sticks cause they arnt ment for sharks really , cause sharks suck in their food, well bamboos do anyways, and they can suck in the stick as well, so try like small tongs, nothing metal tho, i feed mine , krill, silversides and squid, squid is the best thing to start him on, i found out by experience that they like to eat when their food is soaked in ZOE the kent product, i guess it gave it a certain smell.

I just cut the fish into strips rather than chunks so the sharks mouth doesn't get close to the stick.

I am a Daddy!! hahaha It is fun. I did do some serious reading throughout the forum and tried the wiggle thing. Worked great. He is eating. But I was using my fingers to wiggle it. I like the prong thing from ***** at least there are no sharp objects to worry about. Thanks so much you guys are the best!

I had one hatch years ago and I got him feeding using a skuer(sp) with a very small piece of shrimp, fish meat, and or squide on the end. Some times it takes several weeks after the hatch to eat since they still might have some of the egg sack left. They will normaly not eat until it is pretty much all gone though. They are awesome fish just do not over feed them because they will grow quick. In about 18 months I had my bamboo shark to about 30" but I feed mine three times a day almost all the time. After I got him to start eating I got rid of the skuer(sp) and hand fed him. He was awesome he would always swim around my arm when i had my arm in the tank and if I put my hand out he would sit on my hand he would even let me pet him I loved him but I got rid of him to a friend when he got to big for my tank. I am thinking about trying another one when my 125 cycles though. I had only an 80 6' long aquarium before when I raised mine. I paid 19$ for the egg and my friend paid me 375$ for him when I got rid of him. My friend would not take him unless he paid that much for him because he was there to watch it grow up also. I am new to this whole thing. I have a shark egg and I was just wanting to know what needs to be done when it hatches and what happens when it hatches. My egg hatched back in the begining of March. It took at least 2 weeks before he began to eat. I put the food on the end of a long piece of skinny rigid air line. When your shark gets hungry enough to eat you will know it. He will go nuts when you put food in the tank.. I read, that as babies, they need to be feed every other day. And, as adults, they only need to be feed every 3 days or so. They are great to hatch and watch , I love mine!! Mine eats krill and frozen uncooked seafood. WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THE GARLIC OIL?????

Hey folks, great info. on the "Chiloscyllium-Punctatum", tech name for Banded Bamboo Shark. I too have a new baby Bamboo Shark and was wondering how to get it eating. It was born over fathers day week '02. I'am curious when shall he start to eat, after hatching. To my knowledge, he/she hasnt eaten yet(4)days. Should I be concerned ?? What is the normal waiting period ? Should I be concerned with the other fish in the tank ??

Hey there folks.. well, I want to inform you guys that its been about (5)days and I finally got my Bamboo Shark to eat some frozen squid from a slit straw. Iam relieved. I want to thank all the people whom responded to my post and for the informative info. on the matter.
