Base rock??

do you have to cycle Base rock??? and can you cycle both live rock and base rock in the same tank?
and does base rock act as a way of filtration like LR?

Base Rock is usually just dead, dry, but porous rock. Eventually the live rock will seed the base rock and yes, it will act as filtration.
