Base to Live rock

Okay my life-in boyfriend and i have been researching saltwater tanks. We've read that you can use a combination of live and base rock so that you dont have to use all live rock which is a little more expensive. Appoximately what should our live rock to base rock ratio be?

If i go with somewhere between 50 and 80% base rock how long should i wait to add fish? Will the 30-50% live rock be enough for it to live off of for now or should i wait until more of the base has come to life?

Basically any ratio you want. Just takes longer to the base to become live with less live.

I need some clarification:
What is the difference between live rock and base rock? Are they the same rocks except for the fact that one is cured and the other is not.
Is it that "live rock" is cured and "base rock" is not cured?
If that's the case, if i purchased fiji live premium rock and let it sit in the sun for a month, does it then become "base rock"
thanks.

Yeah, the only difference between live rock and base rock is that the live rock has life in it, the bacteria and organisms in it.
