a ups backup will work for a very short time but not very long with only basics like pump and a heater.
I think most people will agree The best idea is to get a generator the geneators are coming down in price but the installation can be a bit pricey!! with an electrician.

Please ignore the tank as my wife got a hold of my QT tank! This is a simple yet effective back up. It will run a Thermometer for a day and a power head with a timer (10 minutes every 1/2 hour) for a day.
