Once a week the LRS gets corals and also from time to time gets a frag bag of zoas. They sometimes are nice assortment, sometimes it looks like the supplier frags up a colony and drops them all in the same bag like this weeks, all Green Crosettes.
Anyway, as some of you have seen in my post 'Stupid me almost threw these away' this was from a week ago out of a frag bag that the zoas hadn't opened but I took a chance on them and it adds some excitement taking zoas home not knowing what they will turn out to be. Couldn't go wrong with this one, Martian Reds and Pink Panthers.
I went back yesterday and there were a couple more frags, still locked tight, closed. I thought I would risk it and bring them home.
After I got home I dipped them in a full strength solution of Kents Iodine for 1 minute after floating the bottle to bring to temp, shook the zoas off and placed them in QT. They started opening within an hours time.
These are about the 100th frag I have dipped for 1 minute in a full strength solution of the Kent's Iodine, all with good results. Kills every critter there is except the zoas and its partner alga the zooxanthillae.
All the zoas I bring home that look rough, have nudis and don't even look like there is any hope left, after dipping like this, have all recovered. Just wish I had dipped the Martians sooner.
For what it is worth.

Straight IODINE DIP ? I have some Tropic Marin Iodine dip i got called Pro Coral Cure and i mixed it though with the tank water cause it says just use 1 squirt per 200 ml. You think its safe to just dip em in straight iodine dip ? And whoa that would be exspensive right ? But cant wait to see your new arrivals.

I was trying to be careful to state that I have only used KENT"S IODINE and I could not even attept to comment on any other brands and would nopt suggest even trying. Kent's is dilute enough to use recommended dosage of 8 drops per day per 50 gls for tank use. Using any other brand straight might not be a good think.
I had hessitations to post this because of pple not reading fully or placing words between the lines. Sorry for any confusion and like I said I have dipped over 100 frags at least since I started doing this and have not had any losses. This is my observations forKENT"S IODINE and I am not suggesting anyone try it if they have reservations with it.

REMEMBER I SAID KENT"S IODINE

Didn't refer to you being stupid, just wanted everyone to see that I said Kent's. Though I have only used Kent's since reefkeeping I have never heard of another iodine that was the same strength as any other, but that they all have different dosing instructions so using another brand full strenght would not be good practice, especially since most others are use few drops per week compared to Kent's use 8 drops per day per 50gls. Very dilute I know and probably a waste of money buying it that dilute, but I have used it since the first part of the 90.s and the results I get from my corals and inverts leads me to believe that if it ain't broke-don't fix it.

Yep, and hey your corals are A1 i can see and never heard a complaint against ya so you must know what ya doing :) Ahhh i am so upset with this money i spent at that site on those zoos i got and they just look awful. Are steady melting on me and only a few polyps have lived :( its like 160 dollars i could have just put a lighter to and had more fun seeing it burn up then getting bad corals ya know. Oh well we learn our lesson. I look forward to spending with you very soon though.

Maybe hold them in front of the output of a powerhead for 30 seconds blowing off the decay and place them in an area of high flow/low-mod lighting. This might save a few. Any chance a nudi or something might have escaped your attention? Double check. I would suggest running out and getting a small bottle of the Kent's Iodine and giving them a full strength dip and seeing what happens. I bet there is a trun around. If they are on their way out there is nothing to loose.
If you have them in high lighting this could be the reason they are falling apart. Zooxanthillae oxygen production poisoning, not an uncommon thing. The dip and cleaning will help to stop the degredation and the placement in the high flow/low light will allow them to remain cleansed and give them a chance to recover a bit. Not toal darkness, but low/semi shaded. Where you think that a healthy polyp would probably have to stretch to get enough light. Once they seem to be recovering move them to a mod flow and higher light area.
