Simply cleaning the algae off the glass isn't winning the war. You need to address the problem which is causing the algae. Sounds like it is a major problem from your thread in the Fish Forum. My sense is the algae will be back shortly. Is that cyano on your substrate/rocks?

If you notice the filtration I have setup, it provides more than enough flow. the top 1/3 of the tank is always at a fast constant motion. The bottom 2/3 is moderate flow better suited for corals. I made sure when I covered the whole back of my tank in filtration that it would provide plenty of flow. Thanks for the pointer though, I just dont want to add too much flow in fear of stressing the fish.

you wont stress the fish by adding a powerhead, if anything, they'll be thanking you.

ugh, I have seen tanks with powerheads, I assure you I have as much direct flow as a powerhead with the AquaClear 300. I have it at the highest setting and for the first few hours it was on when I intalled it, the thing was blowing substrate everywhere. I think I am good in the current area. Now, I just need new substrate.

How can I tell, I will check.

29g tank right? A power filter rated at 300 g/hr. Divide the two to get 10.34. Which means your tank is circulating through itself 10x/hr. IMO you need more flow. I have a 29 that I'm setting up with a mag drive 700 return pump in my sump, and two maxi jet 400s (which might turn into 600s) for a total turnover of 22.7 (26.5 with the 600s). Crushed coral doesn't help much either.

Ugh...I battled that stuff for months and months in my 37 when I first set it up (with tap water). What a pain. After I switched to RO, cut back on feedings, cut the light back, well, it still took months and a lot of water changes with the RO, but eventually it finally went away...thank goodness. My 46 and my sh tanks have both been started off with RO...don't wanna go THERE again!!
Your tank looks much better. Just try to stay ahead of it. Are you using RO?

When I suggested posting before and after pics, I was talking about a month or two after making those changes, not after you simply did a cleaning session. Though it does look better.
Change to RO water and reduce light time though, or it will be back in nothing flat.
