Beginner Anenome keeper

Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum. I need a little help. I just purchased a Condy and I am wondering, when will it bloom. It receded into itself and has not emerged back out. Granted I have only had him for about 2 Hours. But, just wondering. I also am wondering will my little problem of green algae and green slim affect him? I am getting a handle on the problem.
My Hermits are a little spoiled and are refusing to eat it right now.
I also would like to know if my Hawaiian Hawkfish will be affected by this anenome, good or bad? Thanx.

It is normal for anemones to shrink and then come back out. How old is your tank? They require mature tanks with pristine water conditions and strong lighting. I don't think the hawkfish will be affected by the anemone and I don't know about the algae.

The tank is approx. 1 year old. I check nitrites, nitrates, ph, and ammonia quite often. Once a week. They are all wnr. My lighting is a Coralife Deluxe Series-Single Linear Strip w/ 50/50 (10,000k and Actinic 03 Blue Ray), and a Strip Light w/ Triplus 20mm 01" Interpet Bulb.

He has come out of his shell ( per say). :jumping: He even bloomed out to feed on some brine shrimp that I gave him.
I also finished hooking up my Rena Filstar2 filter to the tank. It seems to have pleased him a little more. I'll be watching him to make sure he stays happy. ***) I know he's a little bleached, but, he seems to have creamed up a little. He's getting some brown tone in his tenticles ( excuss the spelling). Thank you for making me feel better about him shrinking.

It doesn't take much to tick these guys off does it? I used my air pump to blow some green slime and algae off of my LR and decorator shells, and he instantly went back in. It was like he was saying, " Oh you little *#-, I'll show you. Now you can not enjoy my beauty.

He is doing great. I feed him some brine shrimp today from a syringe and he even curled his tenticles aroung the tip of the syringe and ate directly from it. He is so cute, running each one to his mouth to feed himself. :cheer: :happyfish

I'd try something besides brine. If you really want to make it happy try raw shrimp or fish from the market. I give mine 1/2" chunks of shrimp or fish every 3-4 days.

That sounds good. I may eat it myself. But, will it harm my Damsel, Hawaiian hawk, or Mandarine Goby if they eat it. I'm really not too worried about the Hawk, he's a predator.

Well..... mine ate my bi-color angel. It was very upsetting and if you have kids I'd try to keep them away from the tank if something gets caught. I think you mentioned your's is still on the small side, and these anemones can put out a pretty good sting. Pretty much anything that can survive the sting and has enough power to escape the arms will be safe. I would be concerned for your mandarine dragonette though, they are known for becoming anemone lunch. They are also a very hard fish to keep alive if you do not have alot of old seasoned live rock in your system. Might be best to take him back and go with a real goby or blenny.

Actually, my Goby has been going on about 2 months now, and doing real well. I have gotten him to even eat flake food. He pretty much stays away from the anenome. As a matter of fact, he pretty much stays away from everybody. He's happiest that way.
The Hawk fish has went and sat almost on the anenome. He got a little sting. But faired well from it.
He's much quicker on the draw now. You no a botter me, I no a botter you. It's pretty peaceful in my tank right now. And everyone is happy.
I actually was asking if the food is good for the other fish as well? Or would it hurt them?

Chunks of seafood meat won't hurt the fish at all if they happen to get a nibble of it. Make sure they don't go "condy diving" to get it though or they may be on the condys menu too!

Yea, I know. I always try to get the others to the other side of the tank. The Hawk fish every once in a while tries his luck.
I'll probably lose him. The others just are not interested in getting near him. :scared:
