You're OK! It is going to go through its cycle with or without the filter. I assume you have other circulation. (Other powerheads etc.) If not, then you are in trouble.

It will be ok. Go get some powerheads asap and it will be fine. Make sure temp is ok. You are a nurse, are not supposed to be cool and collected. I would hate to be in the ER when you are working. J/K

One of the first things you need to learn is to not freak out and do something crazy. You did the right thing in asking when you didn't know something. You should always ask questions if you are unsure. This is a great BB for saltwater as I'm sure you have found and many will write in to help a person in need. So just relax, your rock will do fine in a tank with proper temps and salt levels, and make saltwaterfish.com your home page. :D

What do you mean the filter is not yet functioning? Do you mean it is not in working order? Pump is broken? What? If you just don't have the filter media, run the filter for circulation and areation. Basically, that is what you need. Circulation. Do you have a power head, or a skimmer you could run for circulation and areation? Lesley

watch the salt level, it may change once tank becomes more stable. Personally I think that it should run it for 4 days with sand only before you put anything in it. Right now the salt and temp are perfect.

You need...
An overflow from the tank to the wet/dry...then a return from the wet/dry to the tank.
The overflow is either a drilled tank or a hang on the back type. Hanging on the back is a continuous siphon overflow which will maintain the siphone even when the water level falls. It is connected usually to a flexible tube which goes to the wet/dry...or for father distances (in my situation), connects to hard PVC piping through the floor into the wet/dry (sump).
The return is pretty much the same, just reversed.
So with that given...what do you have connected and to where?
