Berlin Method

I have a 55 gal tank and am currently using the Berlin Method of filtration which was recommended by my LPS. I have noticed that I'm in the minority here at salterfish and am wondering if I should look into some type of mechanical filtration. Currently I have a handful of fish - damsels, a pair of clowns, and a Sailfin Tang, 3 feather dusaters, countless snails and a number of hermits.
What type of filter should I get?

I wouldn't change a thing unless you see a problem with nitrates...If you think you need a mech filter, any small hang on the back type would work fine fot a tank that size.In my opinion,a Fish olny tank needs some kind of mechanical filteration.I think berlin setups are mainly for reef tanks. That is a tank with little or NO FISH...

Thanks Mr. Salty,
that exlpains it - the local LPS wants everyone to have a reef tank. I just don't have the lighting for one yet. What about a refugium filter?

Hey Brewski, I guess I am running a modified Berlin system on my 58 and it's working pretty well so far.
I have 55# of LR and seeded my old sand bed with LS. 2 percs, 1 flameback angel, 2 emerald crabs and numerous hermits and turbos. 3 powerheads, a Whisper (filtration removed) for surface agitation, and a CPR Bak Pak skimmer/filter.
The system has been up and running only a few months (it was an upgrade from a 35 gallon w/no skimmer) but I have had very good results so far. Water is crystal clear and my nitrates are around 10.
