I've had mine for almost a year now. It's a 25/250 triple pass skimmer. Since August of 2002 I noticed barely any accumulation of gunk in my collection cup. I then moved (broke down everything) in September and re-set up the tank. It's cycled and everything is at normal levels. It's a 58 gallon, 5" DSB, 60lbs LR.
I've drained 1/2 inch of gunk in the past few months. I've tried opening the valve to allow more air, and the opposite. I've also taken it apart and cleaned the venturi & casings around it.
Is this normal? Is it a bad skimmer, or is there just simply nothing to skim?
I'm concerned, I'm about to start adding amphipods, etc. I certainly don't want to be spending money on starting a reef to only have the skimmer not function and kill everything.
Suggestions?
