I am starting to add some coral and I think I need a better clean up crew... I have a Valentini puffer in my 35g and was wondering what type of crabs would stand the best chance. Its a timid puffer, i had a coral banded shrimp in my 10g with it for a while but ended up as lunch with he help of a hermit, what could i get

Puffers eat inverts, so I'm at a loss. We fed our dogface mussels from the grocery store. Puffers are built to crush shells. We never lost a hermit, but we were prepared to replace them if eaten.

No... my hermit ate the shrimp with the puffer lol. It never really harassed the shrimp until the hermit go to it Thats why im thinking I may be able to handle a crab, maybe a couple emeralds

I don't think the emeralds will last long, but YMMV. Our porky ate an emerald.
Our niger trigger ate the other one.

ya...not quite sure why you would keep a puffer in any form of tank if you want inverts too.

Trust me on this, I had the devil hermit. I finally took it back to the LFS and just said keep it. It was a little bigger than a golf ball and ate ANYTHING. It ate an anemone, goby, and some other fish. It would attack at night and put my tank through hell.

comparing a valentini with a large puffer is really not the same. My valentini ate off clips of krill right along side my normal dwarf size hermits. never touched a hermit, snail or shrimp. perfectly happy chomping down stationary vermetid snails only. not that they wont or cant but toby puffers are much less likely to attempt to eat inverts especially larger ones than larger puffer species.
