Best Fish for Cycling?

Don't use a fish at all. Use uncured LR or a (dead) cocktail shrimp.
If you absolutely must use a fish, a chromis is the least aggressive damsel and will be a fish you can keep.

instead of using fish that may die, go to your local grocery store and grab some raw shrimp. toss them in the tank cycle your tank with them.

Me, being ignorant, I cycled my tank with two blue damsels.. later on they died.. not from the cycle though. I wanted to immedietly get fish.. not smart. You'll be much better off doing it properly. Besides, what are you going to do with the fish once the cycle is done?

Here is a little more info on the tank:
90 gal (48x30x16)
50 lbs live sand
25 lbs dry sand
(sand bed varies from 1 1/2' to 4" in some places)
50 lbs of live rock from gulf-view that was very critter packed
45 lbs live rock from lfs
Tank has been up and running for two months now.
last week I added a cleanup crew from saltwaterfish.com (75-100 gal)only because I was getting a huge algal buildup. Every thing seems to be doing well.
I'm now being told by my LFS that my tank never went through a real cycle...and that I need to buy some damsels.

Check your nitrite and ammonia. With the LR and LS you may not have a long cycle and it is probably long over. If the ammo and trites are 0 you are done.
--Your LFS is silly. A cycle is a build up of bacteria that convert ammo to Nitrate. LR and LS have this Bacteria already. After two months I am sure you have cycled - a real cycle.

2 months, with lr and ls, OMG!!!!!!!!!!!
if i had to bet, i would pu tmy money on the lfs being a lil bit offin their judgement, if your tank has 0 nitrItes and ammonia, then i would guess you cycled by now, but then again we all could be wrong, i mean, how often is it that the lfs's are wrong guys?? not very, if you ask me
NOT!,
i have seen and heard of very very few good lfs's that actually know what they are saying, let alone selling, so yeah, i do think it is very possible you cycled by now
but if you trust them and want to be sure, get a couple of chromis, they are very docile and will add color to the tank, and are fairly hearty(actually they are a very docile damsel), them you oculd leave in later too, anyhow after adding them, give it a couple more weeks ot a month before adding fish and monitor your levels
to answer your question, i prefer to cycle using lrand ls mayself, and a close second would be using grociery shrimp, but no fish(not that this question matters anymore)

My LFS, really an Agway that bought out the LFS has had their saltwater tanks up for 4 weeks, with 1-2" of CC. They just got an order in with several fish, including a Huma Huma, feather duster(I just got the duster), catalina goby, anenomes, etc. They have had humbugs, dominos, blue, yellow and blue damsels, mandarins and anenomies before this order in their tanks.
Would you assume they know what they are doing??? I am waiting for the cycle to start anytime now. I guess these are good fish for cycling. Just kidding. Please do not try this at home.
