ok ive found this stuff called RODS FOOD. as of now there is a coral/fish combo and a herbivore blend that my LFS carries and there is a few more blends coming this summer. basically this stuff is a blend of everything fed to fish and corals in this hobby, cyclopeez, oyster eggs, krill, mysis, nori, seclon(sp), and other stuff. this product claims to get nocturnal feeders to feed during the day by giving them a little pre-feeding squirt to get then to come out and let me tell you it works i feed my sun coral in the middle of the day. only drawback i find is the price LFS sells it for $10/2-oz or $20/6-oz. anyone else seen/use this stuff lemme know what you think about it

$50.00! That's crazy! The big depot place and that premium place has it for $20.00.
lion_crazz, East Coast Aquatics, 734 Chester Pike, Prospect Park, PA, 19076 is listed as a supplier.
FYI for anyone else... The Rodsfood website has a search-able map of LFS that carry Rodsfood. (I'll let you guess on the website address
)
Another note; Rods now has a Herbivore Blend available and will soon have a
Predator Blend, Fish Only Blend and a Coral Blend.

Its really not that expensive considering there are no gels or binders added, so you need only a small pinch to feed your whole tank.

I know Rod pretty well and have discussed the adding of vegetables. They're there to naturally add color to your fish and corals. He adds them for extra carotenoids in addition to the astaxanthins the are naturally available from the crustacean shells. If you have ever seen Rods onyx clowns, they have amazing color to them. (Im sure he could explain it in more detail)
Sure you could make your own food cheaper, but what a mess.

I just picked the larger pack from my coral LFS today for $20. Awesome stuff! I tested it tonight and my fish were feeding very aggressively. Similar reaction to how they are with our home made food. I've heard only great things about Rod's food and how in about 2 weeks you'll notice the difference in coral colors.

I understand the addition for ceartain things, but in my opinion, these creatures dont get carrots in the deep blue, so the more natural source should be found for the caratenoids. truly a diffcult task for the landbound owner, no doubt.
the problem being we dont really know the long term effect of feeding lots of terrestrial food to aquatics, except that often the foods are seriously imbalanced enough to promote liver and fatty tissue diseases, with meats, vegatbles havent been studied enough (please point me the way to further research if you have found some) to prove that any benifit gained will out weigh the risks of cross contamination, overloads of organically derived terrestial metals, or what not.
as for the mess, well...
I make my own foods, I'm up to about 5 flavors. I'm hooked. you should see the mess I make when fragging.

(if you can get rod to talk to me about it I would love to discuss nutrition with him, to gain his views on it)

I also use it in my reef, I found it locally. I was shocked at the price at first, but I noticed you only need a small amount. I feed my 46 reef with rod's twice a week, 2 oz has lasted about 3 months, I alternate the rods with mysis, formula one, etc.
