The reason i ask the question; "what skimmer is the best" is because im going to be getting a new one to replace my seaclone on a 60g reef. The one i have actually been leaning towards buying was the CPR Bak Pak. My LFS uses these on all their reef tanks and they have by far the best corals than any other LFS. So I guess now that I have done some research on what everyone thinks is the best hang-on skimmer I don't know weather to get a Bak Pak or a Remora. A lot of people on this board think Remora is really great, but I haven't actually seen one being used in person. On the other hand I have seen several Bak Paks and out of all the hang-ons i've seen, it works the best IMO, but then again I have never seen a remora being used by anyone. So my question is which one should i get a Remora or a CPR Bak Pak?

Since we're talking about protien skimmers....
What do people think of the Prizm? I hear the impeller might be noisy, but can be replaced by a newer one for free?
I'm looking for a less expensive option for a 29Gal, but may move up to as much as 75gal at some point. It would be nice not to have to replace too much equipment. Hey, it's easy to get quality when you have money, but I'm limited on my budget at the moment. If not prizm, what are my other lower cost options.
Thanks!

i like prizms for a 29 it would probubly be a good cheap skimmer. they work good but are a little noisy and if you go with a biger tank u would have to upgrade. imo if u plan to get a bigger tank save another 100 bucs or so then look at a biger skimmer i run a berlin turbo witch is like 185 bucs

I have a turbofloater 1000 hang on and I love it. You can't hear it at all. It does a great job and is easy to take apart to clean with a good sized holding cup. I've heard a lot of good AND bad about berlins, hard to clean, cup too small.....

NO UPGRADE will make the prizm quieter. I tried everything from impeller upgrades to replacing the impeller with an airstone. Its just loud.
I just traded up for the seaclone (new one with the maxijet 1200). A bit quieter, but not silent. Waiting to see how effective it is.
Comes down to, what do you want to spend. I wanted the berlin turbo HO but I saved $100 by going seaclone. The remora is a good alternative, but the bakpak ALMOST as weak as the seaclone.

On my old tank i had a seaclone it was good. Then I found out they redesigned the seaclone and I thought i would give it a try. For a less expensive model it is great. I have a half of a cup of crap to poor out every day, it never adds unwanted bubbles into the tank. I think that it is really good for smaller size tanks. Berlins at my LFS here in Canada are between 400 and 500 Canadian. That is to rich for my blood.
