10g tank from walmart = $13
Aquaclear HOB filter = $20.
Maxijet 400 powerhead = $12
5lbs base rock = $15
5lbs live rock = $35
15lb bag sand = $15
Heater = $20
PAR 38 bulb = $80
S&H = $10
---------
Total: $220
Additional materials
bookcase stand DIY = $50
Black spray paint $1
Salt: $25
Refractometer: $50
Digital temp gauge: $10

If you want just a 12g nano tank and you want it to look pretty good, I suggest looking into a Mr. Aqua tank.

The par 38 lighting will be essential for corals though rite?

Just like everything else in this hobby- it jus depends. There are nonphotosynthetic corals that need lots of food and no light. There are corals that are low, mid and high lit corals. Par 38, especially the ones that are adjustible with a remote will give you something to have fun with when you have guests. It will also provide enough light to keep most photosynthetic corals.
