Best Protein Skimmer for the Buck?

Word on the Reef is that The ASM is the best for the buck and a lot of LFS use it in their own systems. Needle wheel skimmers also uses a venturi but has the advantage of of the needle wheel in the pump which breaks down the air bubles even finer for better foaming/skimming.

yea, ASM is well known around the reef world. right now i'm using a turboflotor but i'm planning on getting a new skimmer, one with a recirculating needle wheel pump.

BK is always a good choice, but pricey. If I were gonna spend that kind of $$, I would look at the MSX 2s cone skimmer. The cones are wicked!! If I had the $$ I would trade my MSX 250 in for one for sure.

Any opinions on a BubbleKing mini 200 on a 180G tank?
BK is over priced.. its like when you buy clothing with a brand name on it. Its still the same manufacture making most of the clothig but they add different fancy labels to help market the product better.

the height is stopping me but the octupus sounds good. but will it actually do a good job on a tank up to 250g or should it only be used on one up to say 150?

Warner Marine skimmers are newer but IMO are just as good as the ATB skimmers, which IMO is the best you can buy. Warner is also coming out with a cone skimmer very very soon, say a month or so. They also have a true rating....You don't have to double your tank size like with most skimmers. If its says for a 150 it means it....They cost more but work better. Also come with a lifetime impeller warranty.

I'd go with the Octopus before the ASM.
