Best salinity level for a fish only tank...

What do you guys think that the best salinity level is? One of my friends says that it's 1.022. A fish store employee in my town says 1.021, yet I've read that 1.025 is the best. It all seems very confusing. What are you guys' opinions.

Anywhere from 1.022 to 1. 027 is ok. An earlier post on here stated that the natural ocean water SG is closer to 1.027 and we tend to run ours low in our tanks.
It is more important to be consistant. Salinity changes are very stressful for our fish as the reefs they come from are such stable environments.
When you mix your salt mix according to directions, what is the SG?
Evaporation is a big issue. I have to add at least 1/2 to 1 gallon of water (NOT SALT) to my sump every day.

you'll be ok with that. for fish only tanks, I'd keep mine around 1.020. for reef, I'd keep it at 1.025. it matters more for corals than it does for fish though.

Inverts cannot handle low SG...that includes snails. If you plan on any clean-up crew at all...best to keep it at 1.025.
