just wondering what brand & types of salt people are using?
I myself have been using red sea salt, iam almost finished my pail and was wondering if its worth changing. the guy at the lfs said it was no good but then again they sell instant ocean.
BTW my tank is FOWLR right now but i plan on going for a reef after my tank gets a little more established.

I used Red Sea for about 2 years. I just recently switched to Tropic Marin Pro and my corals couldn't be happier. I was having low alkalinity and calcium issues with Red Sea. I figured i needed something better. Ever since my switch my corals have perked up alot.

My first bucket of Instant Ocean is about empty.
I love it. Very good Salt.
However, I am switching over Reef Crystal cuz I am doing reef tank with some fishes and inverts in there.
Reef Crystal is even better than Instant Ocean cuz R.Crystal is made for reef tank with all trace elements been mixed adequately.

IMO, IO is not a great salt too low on calcium, alk, and mag. Reef crystals I haven't fully tested yet but appears to be the best CHEAP salt.

i read up a little on the red sea slat and they say it contains more natural ocean salt, as compared mainly synthetic salt blends like instant ocean.

I fell into the newbie trap. I used Instant Ocean and had very low calcium. I needed to boost my calcium so my LFS which also sold me the I.O. sold me calcium supplement.
I changed salt to Oceanic and could not be happier with the calcium levels and NOT having to dose every day.

Was it regular instant ocean, or I.O. reef crystals?

I used I.O. and calcium in my tank's been very consistent at 420. Haven't added any sumplements in my tank. I do 10% water change weekly.
I don't know why you had to add Calcium in yours.

just wondering dose the Oceanic salt fully dissolve ?
one thing i have noticed when do water change is that i still have a little bit of salt left in the bucket, even after letting it mix for about 8 hrs with a small powerhead
