Best skimmer for Fuge?

I have a Fuge with space limits. It has a 8.25"x16" area but the water is 16" deep and I only have 25" high total. The MXT 160 Is what I was looking at the footprint fits but....

The MSX160
Height: 23 inches
Body Diameter: 6.4 inches
Powered by a Sicce meshwheel pump, a pinwheel is also included.
This is an in-sump skimmer.
Footprint: 8 inches X 10 inches
These skimmers perform best when they sit in 8-10 inches of water.
It will be in 15 to 16" of water.....
Any Ideas or will it be ok?

I can raise it an inch maby.... but no more or I cant remove the bowl to clean it
So If it will not work any Ideas on one that will?

I would say that it will not operate very well at that depth....too much head pressure against the pump resulting in poor air draw.

What's the water volume that you are wanting to skim? If it a smaller tank, and have the room, why not use a HOB skimmer on the fuge.

But a skimmer would suck up the critters you hope to be cultivating and create a turbulent environment not indeeded for a tranquile pod populatin' fuge.

The skimmer is be for the "critter" area. The fuge has 3 "stages" 1 for intake and filtering/skimming, 2ed for sand and critters, 3rd for bubble removable, heaters, and the pump feed.

why don't you look for a skimmer that has a low profile, and then sit it on a shelf or home-made rack to bring it up to the correct depth. i've seen a few that are good for tight spots. i've seen some tunze skimmers that are built that way.

If I use a remote mout skimmer are they as bad as hang ons for flooding? The thing I like about a in-sump one is the safty of it.

if you really are going to keep 16" of water you are going to be hard pressed to find a skimmer that will work in that without being raised up a good deal. you might be better off with an external recirc.
